This single-cut semi-hollowbody’s laminated maple body sports dual Supro Bolt Bucker humbuckers, packed to the brim with both warmth and clarity to cover all ends of the sonic spectrum. Next, the 3-piece maple/walnut neck is all but impervious to the rigors of the road and remains straight and true in even the most challenging of environments. But how does it play? Thanks to the ebony fingerboard's 12-inch radius, medium jumbo frets, and the comfortable “C” neck profile, the Excel SS Tour is a champion of playability, providing smooth bends and a slick, fast feel up and down the neck.Lastly, while the D’Angelico Excel SS Tour is a stripped-back 6-string, it’s still a stripped-back D’Angelico; gorgeous 3-ply neck binding, 5-ply body binding, and a tamer take on the standard D’Angelico art-deco headstock rein in the extravagance without sacrificing the brand’s iconic elegance.

Sturdy 3-piece laminate neck

A sturdy neck is key to any touring musician’s 6-string, and it doesn’t get much sturdier than this D’Angelico’s 3-piece set-through design. Two pieces of rock-hard maple are laminated together with a stripe of walnut in the middle for incredible structural stability, ensuring your neck remains unphased from the onslaught of stage lights, temperature changes, and day-to-day use. All together, the dark ebony fingerboard, the 22 medium-jumbo frets, the 12-inch fingerboard radius, and the pleasing “C” profile provide wide-ranging playability ready to tackle any style.

D'Angelico: a history of guitar accolades

After mastering his craft during an 18-year apprenticeship, luthier John D’Angelico opened his own shop in Manhattan’s Little Italy in 1932. Catering to New York’s many jazz musicians over the ensuing three decades, D’Angelico and a single apprentice became New York’s foremost stringed instrument builders, creating over one thousand treasured archtop guitars until John’s death in 1964. Following his passing, D’Angelico’s legacy lived on only through his rare, legendary instruments. After decades, the D’Angelico brand has resurfaced, bringing back the playability and attention to detail of the company’s New York roots.
